Course Duration: One Year – QQI Level 5
For over 15 years now The Sound Production course has been providing students with the essential skills and knowledge to pursue careers in many of the various areas of the Music and Media industry. The course is very practical and hands on and has been constantly updated to keep up with the ever changing trends and technologies in the industry. The course is taught by teachers who have worked at the highest level in the industry. This gives VTOS students an advantage as they are taught by teachers who are familiar with the industry and have experience of up to the minute techniques and can teach with industry standard equipment.

Work placement is an integral part of the course and helps students get real life experience in the area that they would like to work in in the future. VTOS has a built relationships with many employers inRecording Studios, Radio Stations, TV broadcast studios, Live Venues and with Event Production companies over the years to ensure that students get quality Work Experience.
As part of the Event Production module students run a live music fundraising event called “Corriblive” which gives them real life hands on experience in every aspect of Event Production and Live Sound Engineering. It also gives the students a chance to work with top professionals in the field while raising much needed funds for local charities.
The aim of the course is to give students knowledge of the topics while putting that knowledge into practice so the course is very practical and hands on.The VTOS Studio is fully equipped with the same industry standard Software and Hardware being used by professionals in the industry worldwide. The course is particularly strong in the Live Sound Production area as this is where the job opportunities are at the moment. Students are trained on a professional 3-way sound system with active monitoring and work on both Analogue and the latest Digital Mixing Desks. Some of the skills acquired are listed below:

The course also prepares Students for progression to further education. There is a free career guidance service to help students make the right career decisions and help them get where they want to go.For example; Vtos Galway has developed a special relationship with Limerick Institute of Technology which means that Students who successfully complete the Sound Production course get special dispensation when applying to LIT.
